I designed and developed the Puzzle Lock to give players a reason to explore and go to the dangerous areas of the levels. They are color and shape-coded to help with player communication and provide players with a clear and achievable mid-term objective.

The game was named after the "Hold Your Breath" mechanic. When conceptualizing the mechanic, I identified that one very interesting aspect of the "horror" genre, be it in games or film, was hiding or being very close to the threat, in a locker or closet, and trying to remain as quiet or still as possible. Using the freedom Virtual Reality has to offer, I developed a way for players to "hold their breath", by getting their controllers (hands) covering their mouths and noses. The monster in the game is short and narrow-sighted, but has great hearing, and can hear the players breathing. If players do hold their breath, though, the monster will have a harder time detecting them.

Hold Your Breath is a VR Horror experience that makes the most out of the immersiveness of Virtual Reality. The project was developed for the "2023 Indienomicon HallowJam", and was developed in partnership with technical designer Gianni Rosheuvel. The game's main mechanic is that the "Monster" can hear the players' breathing, but the player can cover their mouths and noses with the VR Controller to Hold Their Breath, and avoid getting detected.
