The Walking City

Case Study
Moving Parts
The mechanic I decided to implement was that of Moving Parts. To simulate an ancient temple that was once able to walk, I scripted and implemented Buttons that would either move or rotate different groups of objects.
Some rooms rotate themselves almost entirely, while others move just specific objects. The mechanic proved to be an effective Puzzle mechanic, and throughout the level I present the mechanic in 5 different ways, using it for varied purposes and with increasing difficulty.

SUMMARY
"The Walking City" was designed and developed for my Level Design 2 class at Full Sail University. The task handed to students was to design a level with a unique level mechanic for an "Adventure" game template, that included a character that was able to walk, jump and climb on specific ledges.
My Work
-
Designed, prototyped, and implemented Rotating Buttons, Moving Buttons, and Torches mechanics.
-
Prototyped and Created a level to showcase mechanics in 5 action blocks, iterating on the level after feedback from playtesting sessions.
-
Designed puzzles and interactions for each action block, using the IPM model for the level Design and Flow.
